Vizag: Residents of Nakkapalli strongly opposed on extension of Hetero Drugs Plant (Unit VI) plan at a public hearing session on Thursday.
Representatives of various sections raised their voice for it. Joint Collector Pola Bhaskar presided over the session conducted by Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board at the Plant premises.
It was held on the occasion of proposal of production expansion from 60 ton to 450 tons. Agitators alleged that it would be violating the environmental system, and even now at 120 tons production.
The contamination of groundwater and air pollution was evident from the outbreak of respiratory diseases, lung infections, growing infertility among women and men, and the stunted growth of children in the affected villages. Fishermen had lost their livelihood due to release of toxic output into sea waters.
G. Babu Rao, MLA- Payakaraopeta, assured the public to support the people sake and he will continue fight against expansion of the units.
